Taxi Driver Shot in Face to Join NYSFTD Press Conference
$5,000 Reward Offered for Information Leading to Arrest
Brooklyn, NY — At 1:30 AM this morning, 54-year-old livery driver Prince Ezenekwe, a husband and father, was shot in the face while working to provide for his family. The bullet missed a critical artery by less than an inch—had it hit slightly differently, he would not be alive today. Mr. Ezenekwe will be joining the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers (NYSFTD) at a press conference to speak out against this horrifying act of violence.
The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of the individual responsible.
“Prince is a Miracle Driver, this is not just a wake-up call—it’s a demand for justice. Our drivers risk their lives every night, and today, Prince nearly paid with his life. The person who shot Prince should be in jail, not roaming free because of failed bail reform. We need action, not excuses.” Said Fernando Mateo, Spokesman for NYSFTD.
“Enough is enough. No taxi or livery driver should be hunted down like prey while simply doing their job. This is attempted murder. We are calling on District Attorney Eric Gonzalez to prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law and to oppose any bail. These violent individuals do not deserve a second chance—they deserve jail time.” Said Steven Rivera, President of NYSFTD
NYSFTD will also call on Governor Kathy Hochul to immediately address the reckless bail reform laws pushed by former Governor Andrew Cuomo, which continue to allow violent criminals back on the streets.
Mr. Prince Ezenekwe from Nigeria has a wife & 5 Kids, he will be present to give a statement and show the extent of his injuries. Media are encouraged to attend and help bring attention to the ongoing violence against our city’s drivers.
